Recently we were at a home where several electrical sockets were causing the breaker to trip. The homeowner had called a different electrician, who had changed the outlets, but after that electrician left, the breakers continued to trip! We knew that there was a loose connection in the circuit, and we began to trace the wires in the attic. Sure enough, we immediately discovered something that the other electrician had failed to notice: the wires had been chewed to pieces!

The homeowner told us that there had been squirrels in the attic, and we set about repairing the damage the animals had done. The two lessons to learn from this are that animals nesting in the attic pose a serious risk to your electrical system, and that you should always rely on an electrician with years of experience who approaches each situation with a thorough analysis.
